about the process:

Platinum printing was introduced in England by William Willis in 1868. This method of printing is exceptional for its long tonal scale, archival properties, and ability to use fine papers. One starts with a photographic negative, usually 4 x 5 or larger. The paper is coated with a mixture of platinum, palladium and other sensitizing chemicals. The negative is then placed in direct contact with the coated paper and exposed to an ultraviolet light source. Finally the image is developed, cleared, washed, and dried.
